Am Not Resigning Says Bamanga Tukur

June 18, 2013

The National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, on Tuesday refuted media reports that President Goodluck Jonathan had asked him to resign.

“It is not true that I am resigning: Resign for what? It is not true at all’’, Tukur told State House Correspondents in Abuja.
Tukur spoke after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He said, “We are here to run the PDP and we have done so and we will continue to run the PDP.’’
Tukur, however, confirmed that some members of the NWC whose elections did not follow the due process had been asked to resign from their offices.
He said the office of the National Financial Secretary, the National Auditor and his office were not affected by the directive.
Tukur said the Office of the National Secretary, which was vacant due to litigation, was also not affected by the directive.
“The meeting is about regularising the family of PDP; there was an INEC’s observation that some of the members of the NWC were not properly elected, so it has to be regularised.
“Those who have not been elected will resign and they will go back. They will have the opportunity to regularise it.
“About eight people are affected while three people are not affected.
“They are the National Chairman, the National Financial Secretary, the National Auditor and of course, the National Secretary which is vacant now.
“The other eight people, all the deputies, and ex-officios and the rest of them whose election in the convention was not voted for are affected,’’ he stressed.
Asked when elections would be held to fill the vacant positions, Tukur said a decision would be reached after meetings of relevant organs of the party.
“We are going to have our caucus meeting tonight; we are going to have Board of Trustees’ tomorrow and National Executive Council’s on Thursday before a date is fixed,’’ he said.
